On Saturday, June 30, collection boxes will be set up in the Heritage UMC parking lot, Overland Park, KS where people may come by and donate new and gently used coats and H.U.G.S. – hats, underwear, gloves, and socks for children and adults of all ages. These will all then be delivered to Cross-Lines in Kansas City, Kansas for distribution at the Cross-Lines Christmas Store and Thrift Store.
“Heritage has supported the ministries of Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Inc. for many years and this year we wanted to do something that would benefit them, but would also involve our immediate neighbors” explained event coordinator Cindy Svec.
People who are members of Heritage United Methodist are then invited to pitch a tent on the church grounds and spend the night there. There will be hot dogs cooked on grills, a speaker from Cross-Lines, music, and a family movie shown outside after the sun goes down. Then, bright and early the next morning the weekend will conclude with one big outdoor worship service on the lawn. Although the community is invited to contribute to the coats, hats, underwear, gloves, and socks collection, camping is limited to members of Heritage and their families.
