OLATHE, Kan. -- Miriah Anderson, a former Kansas East Conference Council on Youth Ministry president, is one of five young adults from the South Central Jurisdiction chosen to attend the Global Young People’s Convocation July 20.

Five youth and five young adults were chosen to attend from each jurisdiction and the central conferences of the United Methodist Church.

“There will be two aspects of the conference,” Anderson said. “At Convocation, I hope to grow spiritually in my faith and how to make my everyday walk stronger with Christ. I look forward to interaction with students from around the world and having the opportunity to experience the connectionalism of the United Methodist Church across the globe.”

Anderson said she also is excited to experience the different styles and cultures of worship that will be shared at the convocation.

The second aspect of the conference will be legislation from the youth and young adults for General Conference in 2012.

“My hopes for that are allowing the youth and young adults of the church to come together and take a stance on the struggles of the church,” she said. “I hope and pray that we will be able to engage in healthy debate that lets the United Methodist Church as a whole see that the young people in the church care and are taking a stand on issues.”

Anderson was responsible for raising the funds to participate in this trip. Her home church, Olathe Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and the Kansas City District supported her. As a Missouri college student, she also received support from the Missouri College Connection and the Rolla First United Methodist Church, where she attends while in school.

Anderson will be writing a blog while attending the convocation. You can read it online at http://miriah-gypc2010.blogspot.com.
