Submit Your Church News

The Kansas Area Communications office invites you to send articles that are newsworthy, interesting and relevant for the East Conference as a whole.

If a ministry in your church has been changing lives in the community, or God has been doing something else powerful in your church, please share it with us.

10 steps to writing a news article

Step one: Ask yourself. "Is this something that would appeal to the interests of people throughout the Kansas East Conference?"

Step Two: Begin with the basics of writing an article.

  • Who: Who was involved?
  • What: What happened or what was the event?
  • When: When did it happen?
  • Where: Where did it happen?
  • Why: Why did it happen? What was the purpose?
  • How: How did it happen or what was the nature of the event?

Step Three: Briefly state the main point of story somewhere in the first paragraph. Example: Members of the Anytown United Methodist Church decided to tutor children in the latchkey program at the Anytown elementary school as part of the church’s outreach ministry.

Step Four: Be sure to identify who wrote the article.

Step Five: Use spell-check functions but also proofread.

Step Six: Check the spelling of all names used in the article.

Step Seven: Be as specific as possible. Include dates, numbers and names.

Step Eight: Be accurate and verify your information.

Step Nine: If people would be interested in learning more, provide a phone number and e-mail address, if applicable, for a contact person at the end of the story.

Step Ten: Submit the article by e-mail to scooper@kswestumc.org.

  • Nearly every church in the Kansas East Conference has internet access and e-mail, which can be utilized to submit information and photos.
  • Using a dial-up connection may require sending the material in several e-mails.
  • E-mailing submissions ensures greater accuracy and saves considerable time for the website and Communique staff, increasing the likelihood that your material will be published.
