Safe & Sacred Space

The Kansas East Conference is committed to providing safe and sacred spaces for children, youth and developmentally disabled adults.  The conference offers Safe and Sacred Space training and certification to individuals who work with children, youth and/or developmentally disabled adults. This certification is required for adults who sponsor youth at conference and district events and for paid and unpaid persons who work with children, youth and/or developmentally disabled adults at the local church.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.   Ephesians 5: 3-4

Safe and Sacred Space is a biblically-based curriculum designed to help participants see observing appropriate boundaries as part of how they live out their Christian faith.

IMPORTANT SAFE AND SACRED CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CHANGES
  1. Effective 7-01-10, the certification fee is $30 per person to cover an increased background check cost.
  2. As a way of compensating for the fee increase, certification or re-certification for those trained or re-trained after 7-01-10 will be valid for five years instead of four.

Certification of Youth:  Youth under the age of 16 will no longer be certified to work in the Kansas East Conference; those currently certified may continue to serve.  Anyone under 16 may attend training to work under a certified person.

Re-certification:  When a person becomes certified, this certification lasts five years (effective 7-01-10).  Because the program's content changes continually; at the end of five years workers can re-certify.  The Sexual Ethics Committee determined that re-certification will consist of  all workers' taking the current abuse prevention class.  This removes the need for trainers to conduct two different classes.
