Corporation Annual Reports due June 15, 2013
Incorporated churches are required to file a Not-For-Profit Corporation Annual Report with the Kansas Secretary of State every year. Information about the Corporation Annual Report can be found through the Conference website http://www.kansaseast.org/pages/detail/1173 (Administration>Church Administration>Business Matters>Church Incorporation). The annual fee for renewing an active corporation is $40.
If your church was previously incorporated and that status was forfeited, the church can reinstate the business entity by contacting the Secretary of State’s office at (785) 296-4564 or following the instructions found at the following website www.kssos.org/forms/business_services/RN.pdf. Additional fees will apply if the incorporation was forfeited because annual reports were not filed.
New Social Security Withholding Rates for 2013
For 2013, the employee tax rate for social security is 6.20%. The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 expired on December 31, 2012.
The employer tax rate for social security remains unchanged at 6.2%. The 2013 social security wage base limit has been raised to $113,700. In 2013, the Medicare Tax rate is 1.45% each for employers and employees, unchanged from 2012. There is no wage base limit for Medicare Tax.
Self-employed individuals (clergy) are responsible for paying both the employee and the employer portions of the Social Security tax and the Medicare tax.
IRS Announces 2013 Mileage Rates
WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service issued the 2013 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.
