United Methodist ministry is not limited by the bounds of the conference or even the state of Kansas. Through our connectional and second-mile giving to specific ministries in the United States and around the globe, United Methodists in Kansas play a significant role in spreading God's reign in places like Haiti, Mexico and Bangladesh.
Joe and Pastor Shirley Edgerton
In October 2007, Joe Edgerton, lifetime member of Eskridge Yoked Parish, and his wife Pastor Shirley Edgerton, member of Lawrence Central UMC, became long-term volunteers for the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) on the island of La Gonave in Haiti. Located approximately 30 to 40 miles from the mainland of Haiti, La Gonave people have been in relationship with clergy and individualsof the Kansas East for nearly 30 years. The people are low on resources but are willing to work for a better life.
The Edgerton's lived on LaGonave for two years and have now returned to the United States but are still very involved in the United Methodist Church's mission work in Haiti. They will keep the conference updated on the work there with their e-newsletters which can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

Terry and Muriel Henderson
Terry and Muriel Henderson were appointed to establish and direct a new rural development program which the late Bishop, Dr. Alejandro Ruiz, named, "Give Ye Them To Eat," or GYTTE for short. It was determined that the program would be located in Puebla, Mexico, so the Hendersons moved from the mission project they had served their first five years in Mexico to the city of Puebla. The Hendersons have now served families in the rural sector of Mexico for more than 30 years.

During Lent we invite you to pray for the Give Ye Them To Eat program, staff, missionaries and those who train to serve God by serving others. The GYTTE Lenten calendar can be downloaded as a pdf file. The Hendersons hope you will share it with your family, friends and congregation. Please pray for them as they pray for our conference.
For Christmas, Give Ye Them to Eat offers an alternative gifts catalog.
