Bishop Jones' Death Penalty testimony
Bishop Scott Jones works closely with the bishops of other denominations in the state of Kansas on issues of common interest such as immigration, education and the death penalty. Over the past six years, Bishop Jones and his colleagues in the Episcopal and Evangelical Lutheran Church of America have written letters and hosted forums on immigration and education.
During the 2010 Legislative Session, Bishop Jones and seven other bishops representing the Episcopal and ELCA churches were joined by Catholic bishops from around the state in writing a letter to the Legislature encouraging abolition of the state's death penalty. Bishop Jones also testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on this issue.
In November 2011, Bishop Jones joined five other Catholic and Protestant bishops in issuing a reflection in illegal immigration. Jones and Archbishop Joseph Naumann participated in a press conference, which was widely used across the state. Read the news release and statement.
