Who They Are:
Ogden, located eight miles west of Manhattan, is home to countless poverty-level families, many of whom are single women with young children. 85 percent of the community's residents live in rental housing. With high unemployment and no public transportation, many struggle to work or improve their economic status.
What They Do:
Ogden Friendship House (OFH), a mission church of the Kansas East Conference, works to serve these families by showing Christian love. Each week, food and health items are given out free. Clothing and household items are available for small donations as people can afford to contribute. In addition to serving approximately 50 families each week, Sunday worship and Sunday school are available to the community.
During the after-school program, children participate in fun and learning activities.
An AA group meets in the House of Hope every Thursday evening. The doors open at 7:00 p.m.
