Habitat for Humanity

What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI works to prevent poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Their goal is to make decent shelter a matter of action and awareness. Habitat invites people of all ages, races and backgrounds to work together in building houses for families in need.

The supplies and labor for these houses comes from volunteers and donations of money and materials. Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help and cooperation of the recipient families--the homeowners pay a down payment and give their own sweat equity.

By selling these houses with an average cost of $60,000 at no profit and financing them on affordable loans, the homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses. To find out about volunteer opportunities, contact your Local Branch of Habitat for Humanity.
